why you should play ace attorney:

• it’s just a really clever game!!! when you hear lawyer game you might think the concept is going to be hard to get into because it’s loaded with legal jargon or some shit nah son the premise of ace attorney is mystery solving. in each case you have a (usually sympathetic) client who is falsely accused of murder and your objective is to prove they didn’t do the thing often by figuring out who actually did and how
• and you get to beat down the (usually) douchebag prosecutor who’s doing the accusing while you’re at it
• there’s two phases to the game - investigations, where you hunt down evidence, and trial, where you present that evidence to debunk witnesses who support the prosecution’s assertions. and it’s all done in a very clever way!!! if you liked the mystery aspect of dangan ronpa it’s a similar concept except i think the AA mysteries are more clever and logically organized so you’ll have a lot of fun solving them!! and feel clever at the end yeah
• but that’s just gameplay. the actual overarching story is just as engaging, there’s a whole heap of very different characters who manage to blend A LOT of lighthearted fun with serious and very emotional character arcs. there are inspiring heroes (male and female!) from all walks of life and there are some great villains too. each case has its own villain, and there are some arc ones as well - some are sympathetic whereas some are utterly unforgivable and it’s a REALLY good mix
• the art is really nice and almost EVERYONE is attractive. everyone
• there’s almost no “confirmed canon” shipping material but it’s loaded with sexual tension of all orientations, leaving you to draw your own conclusions and there’s plenty of room for headcanons (both shipping and in general aha) mhmmmmmm
• the english localization is hilarious and you don’t need to understand japanese culture at all to get into it, but you don’t feel slighted by the fact that you’re playing a localization either
• did i mention it’s emotional. you WILL laugh. you WILL cry. you WILL be at the edge of your seat
• did i mention the music
• and it’s really easy to get!! all the games except for the last are easily available for emulators (and it’s very easy to play on an emulator since it’s mostly just point+click + visual novel format) and the last game is in the 3DS store or you can watch one of the many LPs!! all the links are here with more information on the order in which to play them!
